Baby?

Well, yes, kind of. But no, not really. Miran is so talkative, so full of life, so sweet these days, he sometimes seems all grown up. He freely gives hugs and kisses and says "I love you" and "I miss you" (not sure if he fully understands what they mean, though). As for words -- we lost count long ago. He says everything, consistently speaks in two-three word phrases, and seems to make new connections every day. Most recently, it seems he is really understanding colors, identifying yellow, pink, and orange pretty consistently. He also counts to 12 (always skipping 7) and says a modified version of the ABCs (including a really cute and toddler-garbled "next time won't you sing with me"). He's also getting better and better at focused, independent play and can amuse himself for good lengths of time without demanding adult attention. A toy cash register and his stacking rings are the usual favorites. Oh, and books! All manner of books -- he adores them and will sit and "read" or be read to for as long as you'll let him.

He's 19 months as of last week and a true joy.

--says hundreds of words, and rudimentary sentences
--loves books and now "reads" you the story, too
--puts himself down for naps and bedtime
--happy and active toddler

Update

At his doctor's appointment two days ago, he was:

25.3 lbs (50th percentile)
32.5 inches (90th percentile -- tall boy!)

He is becoming more and more sophisticated and is having a language explosion, repeating almost everything after us. He also now says, "No!" and has a verb: "Go!" (used when sitting in stroller, waiting for Mama to get everything together for a trip to the park). He now uses words to express his concerns and desires rather than just crying. He has also started calling for me in the mornings ("Mama!" rather than "Waaah!), and he has a consistent word for nursing ("Neee"). He says "Hi" and "Bye" and waves, and he has many admirers in the playground and on the street.

Latest Developments

Besides being physically bigger, stronger, steadier, and heavier (!) than we could have imagined, Miran:

--says bowl, ball, Dada, Mama, Nana, banana ("ba"), broom ("br"), bubbles, and more! He understands dozens and dozens of words . . .
--loves bubbles!
--loves the sprinklers in the park!
--is still way into books and has a longer attention span
--has begun sleeping solidly through the night, 10-11 hours
--is down to 1 nap per day most days
--climbs furniture
